Reuben McCrea Voted ‘Apprentice of the Year’ at Export & Freight Transport & Logistics Awards

Sep 22, 2023

We are thrilled to announce a momentous achievement for one of our own at Thomas McCrea & Co Ltd. Reuben McCrea, a dedicated member of our team, has been named ‘Apprentice of the Year’ at the prestigious annual Export & Freight Transport & Logistics Awards. This accolade marks a significant milestone in Reuben’s career and is a testament to his unwavering commitment to excellence.

The award ceremony, held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in South Belfast, brought together nearly 600 industry professionals from various sectors of the transport and logistics industry. BBC NI correspondent Mark Simpson did the honours as the event’s compere, adding a touch of grandeur to the evening.

Organized by the publishers of Export & Freight magazine, 4SM (NI) Ltd, the Export & Freight Transport & Logistics Awards have been recognising outstanding contributions to the industry since 2001. This event serves as Ireland’s premier platform for acknowledging the hard work, determination, and continuous investment that shape our industry today.

Reuben’s journey to ‘Apprentice of the Year’ wasn’t easy. The competition was fierce, with apprentices from across the industry showcasing their abilities, technical knowledge, and communication skills. The selection process involved a practical test hosted by Transport Training Services, where judges observed the apprentices identifying faults in a pre-prepared vehicle. This was followed by a rigorous knowledge test and an interview.

A spokesperson for the awards judges panel commented on the impressive competition: “Each apprentice in this category made a valiant effort, undertaking an online test, facing an interview with two of the industry’s most respected judges, and then completing a practical and fault-finding task. But there could only be one winner, and that is Reuben McCrea.”

The award was presented to Reuben by Glyn Davies, Sales Director from BPW Limited, a leading trailer component manufacturer. BPW Limited believes that workshop skills are crucial for the future of a thriving transport industry. To support this belief, they generously awarded Reuben with £750 worth of tools as the winner and provided £75 to each of the three finalists.

Reuben’s achievement is not just a personal victory but also a testament to the dedication and expertise that define Thomas McCrea & Co Ltd. We are immensely proud to have Reuben as part of our team and look forward to his continued success within our organization.

Congratulations once again to Reuben McCrea on being named ‘Apprentice of the Year.’ We anticipate many more achievements and milestones in his bright future.
